2 Month Old Baby: Developmental Milestones
A 2 month old baby can tell the difference between familiar voices and other sounds.
The baby at month two is becoming a better listener. Lets take a look at the development, milestones, sleeping patterns, and much more.
The baby’s vision is rapidly increasing and has developed faster in the second month. The baby could see color right from birth but it was bit blurry. Since the vision of the baby is increasing he can now see bright colors.
A 2 month old baby now can lift their head up to around 45 angle lying on their stomach. The baby can also turn head up while sitting in an upright position.
The baby in this month will continue to suck their fingers.
The baby was born with a soft spot on his head. The soft spot consist of two fontanelles, which consist of anterior and posterior. The anterior one is at the top of his head and the posterior is located at the back. At month two the baby movements become smoother.
Infantile reflex are also called infantile, infant, or newborn reflexes. Reflexes are involuntary movements or actions. Many of the movements are spontaneous, occurring as part of the baby’s usual activity.
Cognitive development follows a typical pattern in the first 12 months of life. In month 2 the baby becomes more aware of his surroundings. At month 2, he pays more attention and starts becoming more active.
At month 2, the baby starts to recognize the voice of his parents. His best form of communication is still crying. At times, the baby might coos, gurgle, and grunt.
A newborn drinks about 1.5-3 ounces of breast milk every 2-3 hours. The amount of breast milk continues to increase as your baby grows and your baby may be taking 4-5 ounces at each feeding around 3-4 hours.
The recommended weight gain for a baby is around .35 pounds to .5 pounds weight a week. The baby will increase inches this month.
The baby sleeping schedule still remains the same. The baby at 2 months old will sleep on an average about fifteen hours a day. The baby pattern usually revolves getting up for food and going back to sleep through out the day.
At the second month, majority of babies start drooling. Make sure to keep an eye on your baby since they will be placing everything on their mouth. This usually happens due to the glands making too much saliva.
Some babies can start showing signs of teething at month two.
After about a month, breastfed babies tend to have fewer bowel movements than they did before. The baby can go days without passing stool.
If you notice any sign of diarrhea make sure to consult with your doctor.
Some babies pass soft and large bowel movement during month two.
If your baby’s temperature rises above 100.4 F then you must seek medical attention.
There are a few things as frustrating to a parent as baby congestion. The baby at month two can be prone to common viral infections.
The viral infections affect their upper respiratory tract. The common symptoms are sore throat, fever, cough, restlessness, red eyes, and swollen lymph nodes.
The first dose of vaccine is given during the second month. The vaccine protects the baby from five different diseases tetanus, diphtheria, whopping cough, Haemphilus influenza type B and polio.
Additional shots are PCV and PPSV which help the body fight against pneumonia.
