At 31 weeks, you have just completed the first month of your third trimester.  The odds of your baby surviving if you were to go to labor are increasing weekly. 

 If you were to have the baby this week your chances of survival are around 95%. The baby would be born with no abnormalities. 

31 Weeks Pregnant:
Baby Development

Internal Organ Development

The baby’s lungs will continue to develop in the next couple of weeks.  The baby lungs are now able to function on their own with a bit of medical assistance in case of preterm labor.  

The baby now is urinating about 2 cups a day. The kidneys and urinary tract are developed. Your body replaces the amniotic fluid several times a day to eliminate any fetal waster from your baby.

Brain Development

The remaining weeks are vital for the development of the brain. Right about now trillions of neuron connections are forming helping your baby develop all five senses.

External Appearance

The baby now is starting to shed the lanugo hair that was there to keep the baby warm. The fat layer growing helps to keep the baby warm. The baby now is appearing a lot rounder and has a pumper appearance due to the fat developing.

Immune System Development

In the next couple of weeks the gestation is developing to make the immune system for the baby a lot stronger.

Sensory Organ Development

The baby senses of vision and hearing are matured enough for him to response to sound and light. You might feel your baby jumping inside when ever he hear louds noises.

Fetal Movements This Week

The baby continues to grow limiting his space inside the uterus. By week 31, you have noticed the sleep wake cycles patterns. Majority of baby’s at week 30 have already positioned themselves head down.

How Big Is Your Baby?

 The baby measures over 16 inches long and he weighs about 3 1/3 pounds.  He is about the size of a coconut. At week 30, the baby is able to turn his head from side to side.

Twins At Pregnancy Week 31

If your having twins the growth rate slows down. The babies are now sharing the nutrients you eat to be at an ideal weight. It’s important to talk with your doctor about the amount of calorie intake you should have when expecting twins.

31 Weeks Pregnant:
Weight Gain, Belly, And Body Changes

Each week your uterus continues to grow.  The top uterus can now be felt about 4 inches above your bellybutton. Expect to gain about 1 pound per week in the third trimester.

Your belly will continue to grow through out the next couple of weeks. The breast is producing tons of yellowish fluid colostrum getting reading for breast-feeding.  You might notice your breast leaking from time to time.

31 Weeks Pregnant Test
And Ultrasound

The prenatal routine at week 31 consist of measuring your blood pressure and order a urine test to check your protein in your urine. The ultrasound will reveal your baby moving his head side to side as well as his hands and feet.
