Effects of Caffeine On The Human Body

Caffeine During Pregnancy:

Caffeine is a stimulant that affects your central nervous system by making you feel more awake and energetic.  The stimulant effect impacts pregnant women making it longer to detoxify caffeine.  During the second trimester, the detoxifying time can triple make it a lot longer for it to leave the body.

Caffeine Side Effects

There are significant caffeine side effects during pregnancy. The caffeine remains in the system longer and can cause the following:

  1. Restlessness
  2. Insomnia
  3. Anxiety
  4. Dry mouth
  5. Increase heart rate
  6. Diarrhea
  7. Vomiting
  8. Nausea
  9. Stomach upset
  10. Heartburn

Acute Caffeine Intoxication or Overdose

If acute caffeine ingestion is suspected you might feel any of the following:

  • Your hands might shake
  • Facial flushing
  • Depression
  • Nervousness
  • Pounding heart
  • Fever
  • Dilated pupils
  • Hyperventilation
  • Dizziness
  • Decrease in urine output
  • Chills
  • Bruising
  • Hostility
  • Trouble sleeping

Chronic Caffeine Side Effects

Here are some of the symptoms to watch if you suspect chronic caffeine side effects:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Abdominal pain
  • Anorexia
  • Tremor
  • Palpitations

Caffeine Withdrawal Symptoms

Many people start feeling the caffeine withdraw symptoms any where from 12-24 hours after the last time they had it.  

However, some people experience withdraws symptoms as close as a couple of hours later and can last up to one week.

Is Caffeine Good or Bad For You, Caffeine Tolerance?

For majority of people after having many servings of caffeine become immune to it. They no longer receive the kick of the caffeine as alertness or feel any of the harmful effects as increase of blood pressure.

How Much Caffeine Is Safe During Pregnancy?

There is no consensus in how much caffeine is safe during pregnancy. Usually doctors say stop drinking coffee how about other caffeine products.

It’s highly recommended to stray away from any caffeinated drinks during pregnancy. Most doctors will limit your caffeine intake to 200 mg per day.

Risk of Caffeine In Take In Early Pregnancy First Trimester And In Third Trimester

There are many risk of caffeine intake during pregnancy.

  • Can be associated with sudden infant death syndrome
  • Miscarriage
  • Lower birth weight
  • Spontaneous abortion

Caffeine During Pregnancy And Irritability And ADHD In Children

When you drink caffeine during pregnancy it takes longer for it to leave the body. The growing baby does partake some of the caffeine. 

The caffeine absorb by the baby can make the babies have withdrawal symptoms such as irritability and vomiting. The symptoms can last for a week or so.
