Dizziness during pregnancy or feeling faint is a normal symptom. The feeling of dizziness it happens more often in the first trimester some experience it through out the entire pregnancy. The dizziness can happen at any given time during pregnancy.

Is Dizziness An Early Signs Of Pregnancy?

 Yes, dizziness can be an early sign of pregnancy even before you miss your last menstrual.  Many pregnant women do not start experiencing dizziness till the second or third trimester. 

It catches people by surprise that dizziness and fainting is one of the early signs along with miss period, tenderness of breast, fatigue,  frequent urination, nausea, food cravings, morning sickness, heartburn, and many more.

Causes Of Dizziness And Fainting During Pregnancy?

Dizziness during pregnancy is very common. During pregnancy, progesterone increases the flow of blood to your baby, resulting in lower blood pressure and reduces blood flow to your brain making you lightheaded.

It can also occur during the last trimester with high blood pressure. Some of the causes of dizziness are due to having the following low blood sugar, anemia, or gestational diabetes.

How To Prevent Dizziness While Pregnant?

There are things you can do during your pregnancy to prevent dizziness. Here are some helpful suggestions to reduce dizziness.

  • Avoid standing for long periods of time
  • Get up slowly from either sitting or lying down
  • Eat regularly
  • Avoid hot baths or showers
  • Avoid lying on your back once you reach the middle of your second trimester
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids
  • Incorporate iron rich foods to your diet
  • Avoid over exercising
  • Manage your stress
  • Maintain your sugar levels stable by adding protein in each meal

Dizziness In Pregnancy Treatment And Management

In most pregnant women, dizziness is a common but harmless symptom. It usually happens due to normal physiological changes related to pregnancy.

Here are some helpful suggestions to reduce and treat dizziness during pregnancy:

  • Avoid standing up for long periods of time. If you must stand up make sure to keep moving to help your blood circulation moving.
  • Wear loose and comfortable clothes. Avoid wearing anything that will cut off pressure in your body.
  • If you feel lightheaded make sure to sit down or lie still.
  • Avoid sudden changes in position.
  • Make sure to drink a lot of fluids though out the day.

Make sure to pay attention to the signs of dizziness if they experience any below get medical attention:

  • A change in vision or speech
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fever and stiff neck
  • Inability to move an arm or leg
  • Slurred speech
