The cause of round ligament sharp pain in pregnancy is due to the uterus growth. The round ligaments surround the uterus by your pelvis.
The uterus continues to grow through out the duration of the pregnancy causing the ligaments to thicken and stretch in order to provide support. Any type of movement is the main trigger for feeling the pain. It usually occurs more commonly on the right side of the pelvis.
