Tailbone pain (Coccyx Pain, Coccydynia) Location and Symptoms. A coccyx injury results in pain and discomfort in the tailbone area. The condition is called coccydynia. 

It usually results in bruises, dislocation, or fracture of the coccyx.  Coccydynia is often caused by injury. The tailbone pain is centered at the very bottom of your spine.

Causes of The Tailbone Pain In Early Pregnancy (First Trimester)

During pregnancy women produces many hormones. Due to all the hormone changes in the body it causes all sort of dysfunctions in the body. 

The hormone we will be talking today about is called Relaxin. This hormone Relaxin helps the fetus grow and makes the ligaments around your pelvic bone relax.

This hormone plays a major role during pregnancy since it relaxes your ligaments to make your delivery much easier.  If Relaxin starts working to early during the pregnancy it will have the affect of instability and pain in the pelvic region.

Tailbone Pain In Late Pregnancy (Third Trimester)

 During the third trimester, the baby pressing upon the coccyx, causes the tailbone pain. 

Triggers of Tailbone Pain

There are many triggers that causes tailbone pain. Here are some of the most common causes of pain:

  • Many pregnant women have reported that just coughing or sneezing causes pain. 
  • Simply using bowel movement.
  •  Sexual intercourse. Pressure on the tailbone. 

Tailbone Pain Relief And Treatment

There are many things you can to find tailbone pain relief and treatment:

  • Make sure to wear comfortable shoes all the time. 
  • Avoid standing or walking for a prolonged time. 
  • Wear maternity support belt. 
  • Avoid bending over. 
  • Avoid lifting heavy objects. 
  • Apply heat or ice pads to the area. 
  • Water aerobics helps relieve the pressure and pain. 
  • Bowel movement in a regular basis will help with the pressure. 
  • Use non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen.
  • Purchase a custom pillow to help the pressure off the coccyx when sitting.                        

Can Tailbone Pain During Pregnancy Be Cured?

There are many things you can do to bring relief and treat  tailbone pain. There is no cure for tailbone pain. Usually after delivery it's when the pregnant women finds relief.
